The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee was set to hold a mark-up of the bill this week, at 10:00 am Wednesday morning, September 21st. Following several reports that members of the Committee had concerns with specific provisions of the bill, including provisions that restricted the authority of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, the Committee announced on Tuesday that the mark-up was postponed. It has not yet been rescheduled.
HELP Committee staff are attempting to address the concerns of members. While there is no clear indication as to when the Committee may consider the bill, it will most likely be after the election. NSBA will be working with Committee staff to provide updates on the developments of the bill.
