Fiscal Year 2017 Appropriations

Thursday, December 1, 2016

Members of Congress returned this week to negotiate the next Continuing Resolution (CR) that will fund education programs and other federal programs beyond December 9.  The current CR (H.R. 5325) expires Friday, December 9.  Currently, House and Senate Appropriations Committee leaders are discussing the length of the next CR to extend through April 2017.  Based on current negotiations, the next CR will probably not include the policy provisions, or policy "riders," we reported earlier (which were provisions to block implementation of the U.S. Department of Labor's overtime rule and the U.S. Department of Education's transgender guidance, stating that none of the funds were to be made available to implement these regulatory actions).

NSBA's letter to House and Senate Appropriations Committee leaders urges swift passage of an appropriations bill that will sustain Prek-12 education investments in our nation's 50 million public school students.  Please stay tuned for action alerts that we may forward in the coming days to encourage continuity in federal education investments.
