NSBA Statement on H.R.5 to Reauthorize ESEA

In a Feb. 10 letter from National School Boards Association (NSBA) Executive Director Gentzel to Chairman Kline and Senior Democratic Member Scott of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, NSBA applauds Chairman Kline and the Committee for their leadership and commitment to advance the long overdue reauthorization of ESEA.  NSBA commends the overall goal of H.R. 5 to modernize ESEA and limit the budgetary and regulatory authority of the U.S.

As Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), and other lawmakers discuss their priorities for reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) , the National School Boards Association announces its top priorities to advance student achievement and ensure all students have equitable access to a high quality education. Also in a speech on Monday (Jan. 12), U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan outlined Administration priorities for reauthorizing No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the latest iteration of ESEA.
