Recently signed appropriations bill funds federal education programs through fiscal year 2019

President Trump recently signed appropriations bill, H.R. 6157, that will fund federal education programs through fiscal year 2019. The bill, now public law 115-245, provides approximately $71.5 billion for the U.S. Department of Education (a $1 billion increase compared to FY2018). Funding for professional development for K-12 teachers remains consistent at $2.1 billion; and, the federal investment in programs for English Learners remains at $737 million.

NSBA has urged members of Congress and the administration to prioritize education and the funding of education programs that support states and school districts in their efforts to best serve all public school students. We are pleased to see the passage of an appropriations bill that reflects support for education programs and includes two provisions regarding school safety and infrastructure, for which we have specifically advocated.  Read more here:
